OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO

Two of the major European summer festivals begin this week, and Wagner enthusiasts may once again listen to a series of broadcasts from the annual Wagner festival in Bayreuth, beginning today with the LIVE broadcast of "Lohengrin." The link below provides information regarding the operas to be heard over the next few days, including links to the various internet radio stations that will be transmitting these broadcasts. There are also sure to be repeat broadcasts in the coming weeks.

This summer's opera festival in Salzburg also gets underway with a broadcast on Friday (July 27) of Mozart's "Magic Flute" which can be heard on ORF (Austria).

Then on Saturday, Medici-TV will be providing us with a LIVE video-stream (also from Salzburg) of "Salome" by Richard Strauss.

Perhaps not as well-known as the Bayreuth and Salzburg opera venues during the summer months, there's also the annual festival in Bad Wildbad which usually features the works of Rossini and his contemporaries. This Saturday, it's a LIVE broadcast of Rossini's "Moise & Pharaon" which is his own re-working of the earlier "Mose in Egitto" -- this one, however, is sung in French and features an impressive ballet sequence, not found in the earlier piece.

Then on Sunday, you can hear a performance from this summer's opera festival in Martina Franca, the opera being Handel's "Rinaldo" which Radio 3 (RAI) will be broadcasting LIVE.

Enjoy!

DAVE
