OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO
The Met's regular season of Saturday afternoon broadcasts is over, we're in the middle of July, and there's still wonderful opera to be seen and heard on the internet, beginning tomorrow (Thursday) with the LIVE video-stream of Mozart's "Don Giovanni." This performance is coming to us from London's Royal Opera House and stars baritone Mariusz Kwiecien in the title role. Watch it on OperaVision!
Then on Saturday, German Radio is presenting the June 22, 2018 performance from Potsdam of Andre Campra's "L'Europe Galante." This 1647 work is considered to be the very first opera-ballet ever written!
On Sunday, you can listen to a LIVE performance from Paris of Rossini's ever-popular "Cenerentola." This can be heard on French Radio.
Also on Sunday, CultureBox is featuring a LIVE video-stream from this summer's opera festival in Aix-en-Provence. The opera is Prokofiev's "The Fiery Angel" which can be considered (by some people) to be the closest you can get to seeing "The Exorcist" if it happened to be transformed into an opera. In any case, at least one critic has called it one of Prokofiev's "strongest and most dramatically intense scores."
