OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO
This coming Saturday (August 4), one of the
operas being presented at this summer's Bregenz Opera Festival is being
broadcast on German Radio. It's the July 18th performance of Berthold
Goldschmidt's 1950 opera "Beatrice Cenci."
At the same time, NPR stations are beginning
their series of broadcasts from Lyric Opera of Chicago's 2017/2018 season. This
Saturday the opera being broadcast is Berlioz's "Les Troyens" with
mezzo-soprano Susan Graham singing the role of Didon -- a role that she has
sung at the Met and in Paris (among other venues). The performance is one that
took place in November 2017.
Fans of Anna Netrebko may, instead, wish to
listen to a re-broadcast of Verdi's "Macbeth" (Covent Garden 3/31/18)
which is being transmitted on ORF (Austria) and which features baritone Zeljko
Lucic in the title role.
More adventurous listeners might prefer to tune
in to Radio 3 (RAI) on Friday for a broadcast from Jesi of Lucio Gregoretti's
new opera "Il Colore del Sole" which actually premiered back in
September of last year.
Enjoy!
DAVE
