OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO

Rossini Opera Alert: Yes, it's that time of year when the annual Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro gets underway, and this year Radio 3 (RAI) has scheduled LIVE broadcasts on Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday, beginning with Saturday's performance of "Ricciardo & Zoraide" (from 1818) -- one of his lesser-known works perhaps, but with tenor Juan Diego Florez and soprano Pretty Yende singing the title roles, it ought to be well worth any opera-lover's time (IMO).

On Sunday (August 12), the festival will be presenting a performance of Rossini's one-act comic opera "Adina" (also from 1818), followed on Tuesday by one of his best-known works: "Barber of Seville."

Aside from the Rossini operas listed above, those of us who may opt for Verdi instead might want to tune in on Saturday to German Radio for a broadcast of "I Lombardi" in a performance which took place just last month in Heidenheim.

In the meantime, NPR continues its series of broadcasts from Lyric Opera of Chicago's 2017/2018 season with a February 2018 performance of Mozart's "Cosi fan Tutte."

Enjoy!

DAVE
