New Singer Auditions for the
RI Civic Chorale & Orchestra
The Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra (RICCO) will hold singer auditions on Wednesday, June 6 and Wednesday, June 13 at Providence Presbyterian Church, 500 Hope Street, Providence, beginning at 7 PM both days. All voices are welcome.
The audition includes a song or aria of the applicant’s choosing (which may be a hymn), voice and range testing, pitch matching, and simple sight reading. Auditions are by appointment, so please call the RICCO office at 401-521-5670 or send an email to info@ricco.org. Lori Maciel is the audition coordinator. The 2018 - 2019 season will include music by Bach, Haydn, Schumann and Dave Brubeck!

A little Verdi, a little Mozart, a little Wagner (among others) -- That's what's coming up on internet radio in the next few days, starting on Friday (June 1) with a LIVE performance from Genoa of Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor."
Saturday ends up being the biggest day of the week for opera fans, as is usually the case throughout the year, and opera-lovers "of a certain age" will, no doubt, jump at the chance to hear a "young" Birgit Nilsson in Wagner's "Die Walkure" on Swedish Radio. The performance being broadcast originated in Stockholm on June 6, 1963 (nearly 55 years ago!).
One of Mozart's best-loved works -- "Abduction from the Seraglio" -- comes to us on Radio 3 (RAI) in a LIVE performance from Naples.
Fans of the operas of Verdi might, instead, wish to tune in to ORF (Austria) for a performance of "Aida" which originally took place in Madrid on March 22 of this year.
From Dresden, a performance of Berlioz's "Damnation of Faust" can be heard on German Radio.
There's even a bit of Richard Strauss on the schedule for Saturday afternoon, with Radio 4 (the Netherlands) broadcasting an Amsterdam performance of "Elektra."
Then there's Bizet's "other opera" -- "The Pearl Fishers" -- which can be heard on NPR in a Lyric Opera of Chicago performance that took place this past November and features tenor Matthew Polenzani as Nadir.
In case you missed the video-stream last Saturday of George Benjamin's new opera "Lessons in Love & Violence" as performed in London, you can listen to an audio-only performance of the work on BBC Radio 3.
Finally, on Sunday (June 3), there's more Wagner on tap with a LIVE performance from Paris of "Parsifal" via French Radio.
