OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO

Unfortunately, there's no Wagner, Mozart, or Puccini coming up, but there still seems to be something for everybody in the days ahead. On Saturday (May 5), there's both Verdi and Gounod to satisfy the tastes of 19th century opera-lovers. From the Met, there's a LIVE broadcast of Gounod's "Romeo & Juliet" while Verdi's "La Traviata" can be heard in a LIVE performance from Genoa.

("Traviata" -- https://www.worldconcerthall.com/en/schedule/verdis_la_traviata_with_torbidoni_leung_santucci_and_pelligra_from_genoa/40923/)

On Swedish Radio, opera-lovers with a fondness for 20th century works will no doubt be tempted by the LIVE performance from Malmo of Hans Gefors's "The Park" (1992) which is actually this Swedish composer's take on Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

Aribert Reimann's very first opera -- "A Dream Play" (1965) -- is scheduled for broadcast on German Radio in a performance that took place in Hof on March 17 of this year. As the title of Reimann's opera suggests, this one is based on Strindberg's play of the same name.

Also on Saturday, Paul Hindemith's opera "Cardillac" (1926) can be heard LIVE from Florence. This is actually only the 1st of 3 opera broadcasts that can be heard on Radio 3 (RAI) in the week ahead. On Sunday, it's time for Bellini's take on the Romeo & Juliet story, as "I Capuleti & i Montecchi" comes to us LIVE from Bologna. Then on Tuesday (May 8), Britten's "Billy Budd" appears on RAI's schedule as a LIVE broadcast from Rome.

Enjoy!
