OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO

As many opera fans probably know already, this coming Saturday (October 6) marks the beginning of the Met's series of LIVE HD-transmissions to be shown in select area movie theatres. Soprano Anna Netrebko will be singing the title role in Verdi's "Aida" in this one. And even if, for some reason, you can't make it for this one, the Met has scheduled 2 more HD-transmissions this month, with Saint-Saens's "Samson & Dalila" on Oct. 20, and Puccini's "Girl of the Golden West" on Oct. 27.

In the meantime, however, you can begin your own opera-fest tomorrow (Thursday) when CultureBox brings us a LIVE video-stream from the Paris Opera of Meyerbeer's blockbuster of an opera "Les Huguenots."

Also on the internet tomorrow, you can listen to the 1st of 3 broadcasts from Madrid on Radio Clasica. Tenor Piotr Beczala takes on the title role in Gounod's "Faust." Then on Friday, this same internet radio station brings us the Madrid performance of Beethoven's "Fidelio" which is followed on Saturday with a broadcast of Mozart's "Lucio Silla."

Plus, there are at least 3 items of interest on Saturday for those opera fans who may not be headed over to a movie theatre for the Met's "Aida." One of these would be the LIVE broadcast on Radio 3 (RAI) of Verdi's "Simon Boccanegra" which is being performed in Bologna.

Also on Saturday, there's Donizetti's "Anna Bolena" as performed in 2008 at Philadelphia's Academy of Vocal Arts, which can be heard on NPR. Soprano Angela Meade sings the title role in this one.

And for opera fans who enjoy 21st century operas, you won't want to miss the world premiere of Jonas S. Bohlin's opera "Tristessa" which is being performed in Stockholm and can be heard on Swedish Radio.

Enjoy!

DAVE

  1. I would much prefer that our country would be run by Hillary Clinton and not by this gentleman.
