OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO

Here's something that doesn't happen too often: Luigi Cherubini's opera "Medee" (1797) exists in a French-language version as well as in an Italian-language version known as "Medea." Interestingly enough, the Italian "Medea" can be seen on Friday (October 12) in a video-stream on OperaVision in a performance coming to us from Moscow. Then on Saturday, you can hear a LIVE performance of the French version on German Radio, with soprano Sonya Yoncheva singing the title role in Berlin.
(French version: www.dradio.de/dkultur/)

Then -- oddly enough -- Prokofiev's opera "War & Peace" (as Russian an opera as you can get) was performed this past September 29 in an ENGLISH translation in Cardiff. This Welsh National Opera performance can be heard on BBC Radio 3 on Saturday.

In "other news" -- Tomorrow (Thursday) there are 2 interesting opera performances that can be enjoyed on internet radio. One of them is a LIVE performance from La Scala of Mozart's "La Finta Giardiniera" (1775) which can be heard on Radio 3 (RAI).

Also, there's a LIVE performance tomorrow of Bellini's "I Puritani" coming to us from Barcelona.

On Saturday, in addition to the Cherubini work already mentioned, 2 Verdi operas appear on the schedule. From Palermo, it's "Rigoletto" + from Umea (Sweden) it's "La Traviata."
("Rigoletto" - www.radio3.rai.it/)

But wait! There's more -- because Friday evening at 7:25, the Met is offering a free LIVE audio-stream of Puccini's "La Fanciulla del West." Jonas Kaufmann fans, however, will have to wait till the HD-transmission on October 27, because the tenor in Friday night's performance will be Yusif Eyvazov (a.k.a. Mr. Anna Netrebko, to some people).

Enjoy!

DAVE
