OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO

3 radio broadcasts from the Met this week! First off, tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7:55 p.m., you can tune in to the Met's free LIVE audio-stream of "Elektra" by Richard Strauss, followed on Tuesday (March 6) with a LIVE audio-stream of Rossini's "Semiramide." The latter begins at 7:25 p.m. and features the same cast that will be appearing in the HD-transmission on March 10.(www.metopera.org/)

The 3rd Met broadcast is the Saturday afternoon performance of Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" which can be heard on several internet radio stations.

Also on Saturday, German Radio has scheduled a broadcast of the January 19, 2018 performance from Dresden of Weber's "Euryanthe."

There's even more German opera on tap this Saturday with a video-stream on Culture Box of Wagner's "Tristan & Isolde" from Berlin. (This one might be blocked here in the U.S., but it's worth checking it out in the event that it's available to all of us Wagner fans.)

Non-Wagnerian opera fans, however, who may opt out of the "Butterfly" broadcast from the Met or the "Euryanthe" from Dresden might be interested, instead, in the LIVE performance of Donizetti's "La Favorite" which comes to us direct from Florence and can be heard on Radio 3 (RAI).

Or -- just to complicate matters a little bit more -- fans of 20th century opera may choose to watch the video-stream on OperaVision: a recent (Feb. 23) performance from Prague of Bohuslav Martinu's "Julietta" (1937), complete with English subtitles provided.

And for those of you who may want even more opera on Sunday, you can access WFMT for a LIVE performance from Lyric Opera of Chicago of Gounod's "Faust."

Enjoy!
