OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO

During the next few days,  it's Radio 3 (RAI) that leads the way with THREE opera broadcasts, the first one being offered tomorrow (Thursday) with a LIVE performance from Turin of the Richard Strauss "shocker" "Salome." Then on Saturday (Feb. 17), it's Verdi's "Simon Boccanegra" as performed LIVE in Naples. The third RAI broadcast comes to us on Sunday, as the Italian Radio station has scheduled a LIVE performance from Rome of Bellini's "La Sonnambula."

If you happen to be a Bellini fan and the "La Sonnambula" broadcast on Sunday isn't enough to satisfy you, you have the option of tuning in to French Radio which, unfortunately, is offering competition at the exact same time with a LIVE broadcast of the earlier "Il Pirata" -- a performance that will be taking place in Bordeaux.

Then, if you absolutely MUST listen to yet another performance of "Carmen," you can check out the LIVE performance from Liege of the Bizet masterpiece.

Vying for your attention on Saturday is the LIVE Met broadcast of Wagner's "Parsifal."

The Met also has a LIVE free audio-stream scheduled for Monday (Feb. 19) at 7:25 p.m. of Rossini's "Semiramide" with soprano Angela Meade singing the title role, as she will also be doing when the Met transmits a complete performance of this opera in HD at movie theatres on March 10.

From another American opera company, a LIVE broadcast of Mozart's "Cosi fan Tutte" -- direct from the Lyric Opera of Chicago -- can be heard on Sunday on WFMT.

Enjoy!
