Pretty Yende debuts a new role at the Met with her first
Adina opposite Matthew Polenzani, who enthralled Met audiences as Nemorino in
2013 with his ravishing “Una Furtiva lagrima.” Bartlett Sher’s production is
charming, with deft comedic timing, but also emotionally revealing. Domingo
Hindoyan conducts.

For many opera-lovers, the focus this weekend will be
on the Met's LIVE HD-transmission of Donizetti's "L'Elisir d'Amore"
which will be shown in select movie theatres in our area. This performance may
also be heard on many internet radio stations, with tenor Matthew Polenzani
once again heading the cast as Nemorino.
Also on Saturday, Wagner enthusiasts may choose to
listen to a LIVE performance from Amsterdam of "Tristan & Isolde"
to be heard on Radio 4 (the Netherlands).
Saturday, however, is not the only day which has
interesting opera scheduled for broadcast on the internet. For example,
tomorrow (Thursday) on Radio 3 (RAI), you can listen to a LIVE broadcast from
Venice of Franz Lehar's ever-popular "The Merry Widow."
On Sunday (Feb. 11), French Radio will be bringing us
a LIVE performance from Paris of "Elektra" (by Richard Strauss).
Soprano Nina Stemme tackles the dramatic title role in that one.
Then on Monday, it's time for another FREE live
audio-stream from the Met. At 7:25 that evening, you can hear yet one more
performance of Verdi's "Il Trovatore."
Enjoy!
