Ildar Abdrazakov

Borodin's defining Russian epic, famous for its Polovtsian Dances, comes to the Met for the first time in nearly 100 years. Dmitri Tcherniakov's new production is a psychological journey through the mind of its conflicted hero, with the founding of the Russian nation as the backdrop. Star bass-baritone Ildar Abdrazakov takes on the monumental title role, with Gianandrea Noseda conducting.

OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

With this coming Saturday being the Fourth of July, there might not be too many opera fans sitting by their computers listening to any of the various scheduled broadcasts; nonetheless, there are some potentially wonderful performances on tap for interested listeners, one of which is the LIVE broadcast from Verona of Mozart's "Don Giovanni." This can be heard on Radio 3 (RAI).

On BBC Radio 3, a performance from the English National Opera is being aired; the opera is Tchaikovsky's "The Queen of Spades" as performed just last month.

From February 11, 2015 comes a performance on ORF of Bellini's "Norma" with soprano Sondra Radvanovsky singing the title role -- quite wonderfully, in fact, as she did at the Met back in 2013.

Verdi's "Aida" is on the schedule for Swedish Radio. It's a March 20, 2015 performance from Malmo.

NPR concludes its series of broadcasts from Lyric Opera of Chicago's 2014/2015 season with a November 2014 performance of Gershwin's "Porgy & Bess."

And this past Monday's performance by the English Touring Opera Company of Donizetti's "L'Assedio di Calais" is now available for viewing (with French subtitles), here:

The Royal Opera House's production of Mozart’s "Don Giovanni" (directed by
Kaspar Holten and starring Christopher Maltman) will be streamed via YouTube on 3 July
at 7 pm BST (2 pm Eastern).  The cast includes Rolando Villazón as Don
Ottavio, Dorothea Röschmann as Donna Elvira, Simon Bailey as Leporello,
Albina Shagimuratova as Donna Anna, Nahuel di Pierro as Masetto and Julia
Lezhneva as Zerlina.  Alain Altinoglu conducts.

Enjoy -- & have a safe & happy Fourth of July!
