Great Performances at the Met

LA
BOHEME

LA BOHEME - Puccini's moving story of young love is the most performed opera in Met history -- and with good reason. Anita Hartig stars as the frail Mimi, in Franco Zeffirelli's classic production, with Vittorio Grigolo as her passionate lover, Rodolfo.

Benefit for  Dmitri Hvorostovsky

Last night in #Moscow with Anna Netrebko and Ekaterina Gubanova, sending our love to Dmitri Hvorostovsky from the stage of Московская Консерватория. Дима, мы тебя любим!

Hvorostovsky has cancelled all his engagements as he fights a brain tumor.

OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO
.  Tchaikovsky's final opera -- "Iolanta" -- was performed this past season at the Met (as many of you already know), and it now turns up on the schedule for thiscoming Saturday (July 11), as RAI brings us a performance of the work from this summer's opera festival in Aix-en-Provence.

Then there's Massenet's final opera -- "Cleopatre" -- which can be heard on ORF in a performance that took place in Paris on November 18 of last year. Mezzo-soprano Sophie Koch sings the title role, as she did in Salzburg a few seasons back.

And then there's Rossini's final opera -- "William Tell" -- to be presented in a LIVE performance from London's Royal Opera House. You'll have to wait tillTuesday (July 14) for that one, however.

The music of Neapolitan composer Niccolo Jommelli, who composed well over 60 operas during his lifetime, gets a chance to be heard on German Radio as a performance from Stuttgart (given on February 19, 2015) comes to us, the opera being his 1766 work entitled "Berenike -- Konigin von Armenien."

On more familiar territory, Puccini's ever-popular "Tosca" is the featured opera on NPR, this being the final opera to be presented in their series of broadcasts from this past season at Lyric Opera of Chicago.

One final note: "Arabella" (Richard Strauss) will be given in a LIVE video-streamthis Saturday, via Munich's Bavarian State Opera. English subtitles should be provided for this one, but you'll have to watch it LIVE, as it will not be available for viewing afterwards.

Enjoy!
