OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D' AGUANNO
This coming Saturday (April 21), Wagner
enthusiasts once again get a chance to experience his opera
"Siegfried" which will be broadcast LIVE from the Met on many
internet radio stations. In the cast is Deborah Voigt as Brunnhilde, along with
Jay Hunter Morris as Siegfried and others who appeared in the HD-transmission
several months ago.
There's even more Wagner on Saturday's
schedule, as Swedish Radio is offering a LIVE broadcast of "Parsifal"
coming to us direct from the Malmo Opera.

If your operatic tastes veer more towards the
comic, you can try Rossini's "Il Turco in Italia" which was performed
earlier this month (April 11) in Amsterdam. Tenor Lawrence Brownlee -- familiar
to Met audiences as Don Ramiro in Rossini's "Cenerentola" and as
Rinaldo in the same composer's "Armida" -- sings the role of Don
Narciso in this performance from the Netherlands Opera.

Then there's Polish composer Penderecki's 1969
opera "The Devils of Loudon" (considered quite radical in its day
& dealing with demonic possession), which was recently performed by the
Hannover Opera (March 24) & can be heard on German Radio on Saturday.

For this weekend's rarity, there's Henri
Sauget's "La Chartreuse de Parme" (premiered in 1939) which French
Radio is broadcasting. The performance itself stems from Marseilles (February
10, 2012).
