OPERA ON THE INTERNET WITH
DAVE D'AGUANNO

This Saturday, March 19, those of you who may not be watching the LIVE performance from the Met of Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor" at some of our local movie theatres have an opportunity to listen to the performance on most internet radio stations that normally broadcast opera. Starting at 1 p.m., it features Natalie Dessay in the title role, with Joseph Calleja as Edgardo. Those of you who saw Offenbach's "Tales of Hoffmann" last season will recall that Calleja sang the title role back then, while Dessay sang the role of Amina in Bellini's "La Sonnambula" several months before that.

However, if you've already heard & seen enough "Lucia" performances, you might want to tune in to German Radio for a broadcast of Cherubini's 1791 opera "Lodoiska" in a performance from Rome, dated October 15, 2010.

The Dutch station Radio 4 is broadcasting a performance from Amsterdam of the Netherlands Opera's current run of performances of Britten's "Billy Budd."

French Radio, on the other hand, is featuring a recent performance from Paris of Beethoven's masterful "Fidelio" (2/21/11).
