OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO
Polish composer Stanislaw Moniuszko's
opera "Halka" -- which is often regarded as one of his finest
creations -- can be seen on Friday in a LIVE video-stream from Warsaw, courtesy
of OperaVision. In the meantime, interested opera fans can check out the
opera's video trailer + other information at the link below.
On Saturday,
BBC Radio 3 is broadcasting a performance from last month of Wagner's "Die
Gotterdammerung." This performance took place as part of this year's opera
festival in Edinburgh.
We also have
an opportunity on Saturday of hearing one of Ferdinando Paer's infrequently performed
operas, this one being his 1809 work "Agnese" in a performance that
took place in Turin on March 17 of this year.
Fans of
Handel's music can tune in to Swedish Radio, when that internet radio station
will be broadcasting the August 15th performance in Stockholm of "Acis
& Galatea" (1718).
There's also
a broadcast of last Saturday's performance of Halevy's "La Juive" as
heard in Hannover, coming to us on NDR.
On more
familiar ground, Offenbach's ever-popular "Tales of Hoffmann" is
being broadcast on ORF (Austria) as it was recently performed earlier this
month in Vienna.
Verdi fans
needn't feel left out, either, as his opera "Don Carlo" can be heard
in a LIVE performance from Madrid.
Finally, on
Monday (September 23), it's time for Opening Night at the Met, as this opera
company offers a FREE live audio-stream of Gershwin's "Porgy &
Bess."
Enjoy!
DAVE
