OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO
Polish
composer Stanislaw Moniuszko was born exactly 200 years ago (1819) -- same as
Offenbach & Suppe -- which probably accounts for the fact that a few of his
operas ("Halka" & "Paria" for example) have been
appearing as opera broadcasts the past few months. And so, on Friday, you can
hear his one-act opera from 1858 -- "Flis" ("The Raftsman")
-- in a LIVE performance from Warsaw.
Saturday
being the day of the week that usually brings us several opera broadcasts on
the internet, one of the more interesting items to be heard is Handel's
"Ariodante" (premiered in 1735) in a performance that took place
earlier this month in Drottningholm.
Romanian
composer Georges Enescu completed only one opera -- the monumental
"Oedipe" based on the well-known Sophocles play -- and this opera
happens to be featured as part of this summer's Salzburg Festival. The August
11th performance of this work can be heard on ORF (Austria).
Verdi's
"Ernani" appears on German Radio's schedule this Saturday, with a
broadcast of the July 20, 2019 performance of the work which took place in
Heidenheim.
Then on Sunday,
Australian composer Luke Styles's new opera "Ned Kelly" can be heard
in its world premiere performance which took place earlier this year in Perth
on February 18.
Enjoy!
DAVE
