OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO
Then on
Saturday, there's another French opera coming to us, with the LIVE broadcast
from the Met of "Samson & Dalila" by Camille Saint-Saens,
featuring tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko and Anita Rachvelishvili in the title
roles.
A few weeks
ago, Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci" was paired in Riga with the rarely
heard one-act "L'Incantesimo" by Italo Montemezzi. This time around,
it gets paired with the expected "Cavalleria Rusticana" by Pietro
Mascagni. You can hear a LIVE broadcast of these 2 operas on ORF (Austria), as
performed in Vienna with Elina Garanca as Santuzza and Yonghoon Lee as Turiddu
in the Mascagni work. The two operas will also be offered as a LIVE
video-stream if you're willing to pay what usually amounts to around $16 - $18
in American currency.

If German
opera is more to your liking, there's the March 17th performance from Brussels
of Weber's "Der Freischutz" to be heard on the Belgian radio station
Klara.
If you still
haven't had your fill of opera when the weekend is over, you're in luck: Monday
evening at 6:25, the Met brings us a LIVE audio-stream of Wagner's "Die
Walkure."
Enjoy!
DAVE
