OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO

A surge of Verdi opera broadcasts highlights the internet radio schedules during the next few days, starting on Friday (Nov. 23) with a LIVE performance from Munich of his penultimate opera "Otello." Fans of tenor Jonas Kaufmann will surely be interested in hearing their favorite tenor sing the difficult and dramatic title role in this one.

Also on Friday, Radio 3 (RAI) has scheduled a LIVE performance from Venice of one of Verdi's other Shakespeare operas -- the earlier "Macbeth" with baritone Luca Salsi singing the title role, as he seems to have been doing recently in a few other productions of this opera.

Then on Saturday, a potentially interesting performance of "Rigoletto" is featured on Swedish Radio, direct from Stockholm.

A fourth Verdi opera can then be heard on Sunday. Once again, the opera in question -- "I Due Foscari" -- is being broadcast LIVE from Munich.

Well, if you'd prefer a little Handel instead, you can check out a broadcast on Saturday of his 5-act opera "Teseo" (premiered in 1713), in a performance that took place earlier this month in Vienna. This being his only opera that extends to 5 acts, perhaps I shouldn't have said "a little Handel" in the opening sentence of this paragraph!

Enjoy! -- And don't forget to "bundle up" for one of the coldest Thanksgiving Days ever!

DAVE
