OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

This coming Saturday (August 13), NPR brings us a broadcast from the 2013/2014 Los Angeles Opera season, the opera being Verdi's "Falstaff" (as performed in November 2013).

Another well-known Italian opera -- Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" -- can be heard on Radio 3 (RAI) in a performance that took place in Venice on March 18 of this year.

Being performed today (August 10) but not being broadcast until Saturday: Gounod's "Faust" from this summer's Salzburg Festival, featuring tenor Piotr Beczala as Faust & bass Ildar Abdrazakov as Mephistopheles. This one can be heard on ORF (Austria).

Of interest to fans of 21st century opera: Swedish composer Daniel Fellstrom's new opera "Det Gar An" ("It Will Do") can be heard on Swedish Radio. The work is Fellstrom's second opera & had its world premiere in Malmo on July 9 of this year. It has also been described (by one British critic) as "a diamond among new operas." Interesting!

Enjoy!
