LE COMTE ORY
Rossini's vocally dazzling comedy stars bel canto sensation Juan Diego Florez in the title role of this Met premiere production. He vies with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, in the trouser role of Isolier, for the love of the lonely Countess Adele, sung by soprano Diana Damrau. Bartlett Sher, director of the Met's hit productions of The Barber of Seville and Les Contes D'Hoffmann, describes the world of the opera as, "a place where love is dangerous. People get hurt. That can be very funny and very painful. Rossini captures both-with the most beautiful love music Rossini ever wrote."

OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

This coming Saturday (February 22), the Met is once again broadcasting a performance that took place earlier this season, i.e. before the start of the broadcast season which usually begins in December. So, this time around it's "Der Rosenkavalier" (Richard Strauss) in its November 22, 2013 performance.

French Radio, on the other hand, is broadcasting LIVE this Saturday: From Paris, a performance of Puccini's "La Fanciulla del West."

Also, as performed earlier this month, Rossini's "Otello" (which, of course, predates Verdi's far more popular opera of the same name) can be heard on Klara (Belgium). It's a Flanders Opera production (Antwerp).

One of Mozart's masterpieces -- "The Marriage of Figaro" -- is being broadcast on Swedish Radio. It's a September 19, 2013 performance that took place in Geneva.

Of special interest to fans of soprano Angela Gheorghiu, you can tune in to ORF (Austria) for a LIVE performance from the Vienna State Opera of Cilea's "Adriana Lecouvreur." Plus, if you're willing to shell out a few dollars, you can WATCH the performance by simply going to the Vienna State Opera website, as a video simulcast is being offered of this same performance.

Enjoy!
