OPERA ON THE INTERNET

WITH

DAVE  D' AGUANNO

This coming Saturday (March 31), the Met radio broadcast is of Donizetti's perennial favorite "L'Elisir d'Amore" with Juan Diego Florez and Diana Damrau in the leading roles. Both of these singers, as many of you will recall, delivered top-notch performances in last season's HD-transmission of Rossini's "Comte Ory." Also in the cast this Saturday is baritone Mariusz Kwiecien and bass Alessandro Corbelli, both of whom starred in Donizetti's "Don Pasquale" (with Anna Netrebko) in November 2010.

Another perennial favorite -- this one by Bizet -- is "Carmen" which will be broadcast LIVE from Salzburg, and can be heard on ORF. Tenor Jonas Kaufmann, recently seen in the title role of Gounod's "Faust" when the Met offered it as an HD-transmission last December, will be singing the dramatic role of Don Jose in this Saturday's performance.

In the mood for a blockbuster? Well, why not tune in to German Radio this Saturday when last night's performance of Wagner's "Tristan & Isolde" is aired on internet radio? The performance was given in Berlin, with soprano Nina Stemme singing the role of Isolde, after having sung Brunnhilde this past summer in the San Francisco Opera's Ring Cycle.

And what Saturday afternoon would be complete without yet another World Premiere? This time, coming from the Flemish Opera, it's German composer Christian Jost's latest: "Rumor" -- Word is out that it's a towering masterpiece, but that's only a RUMOR. (Sorry, folks, I couldn't resist that one!)

Enjoy!
