OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D'AGUANNO
Opera fans have an opportunity this very evening (Wednesday, Oct. 5) to hear a LIVE performance from the Met of Verdi's famous early opera "Nabucco." It's one of the many free audio streams the Met is providing listeners during this current opera season. Check it out at www.metopera.org!
Otherwise, you can wait till this Saturday (Oct. 8) if you wish to sample some of the other offerings on internet radio, one of which is a performance from Paris that was given this past May. The opera: Debussy's "Pelleas & Melisande." The lead singers: Simon Keenlyside as Pelleas, & Natalie Dessay as Melisande -- what many would consider a Dream Cast for this opera!
There's also a repeat broadcast of Massenet's "Werther" starring tenor Jonas Kaufmann. The performance from last January was given at the Vienna State Opera.
From Prague (to be heard on Radio 4) is a somewhat rare performance of Dvorak's "The Jacobin." It's a LIVE performance, and one not to be missed if you happen to be an admirer of "Rusalka" (the opera Dvorak is probably most famous for).
Continuing its broadcasts of the San Francisco Opera's Ring cycle, NPR brings us "Siegfried" this coming Saturday. Wagner enthusiasts, rejoice!
