OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D'AGUANNO
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Those of you who enjoyed hearing (and seeing) Deborah Voigt and Marcello Giordani in this past season's production from the Met of Puccini's "Fanciulla del West" might want to check out this Saturday afternoon's NPR broadcast of this same opera, starring the same two leading singers, as it was performed at Lyric Opera of Chicago, around the same time as the Met was putting it on.
(www.wrti.org/)
Otherwise, Italian-opera fans might want to sample a performance that recently took place in Ottawa of Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor" -- part of this summer's schedule of opera performances from Canada, heard on CBC.
(www.cbc.ca/radio2/)
Or -- you could tune in to Handel's "Alcina" in a performance from Vienna, dating from this past November.
(www.dradio.de/dkultur/)
Wagner enthusiasts can feast their ears (so to speak) on a recent performance (June 10) from Lyons of his towering masterpiece "Tristan & Isolde."
(http://sites.radiofrance.fr/francemusique/accueil/)
Speaking of towering masterpieces: Beethoven's "Fidelio" gets an airing on BBC 3 in a performance originating from London's Royal Opera House (March 2011).
(www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/)
If you can't wait till Saturday for an "opera fix" you may want to start tomorrow (Thursday) with a LIVE performance from Amsterdam of Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin."
(www.radio4.nl/)
As you can see, the current opera season is winding down, but there are still wonderful and exciting opera broadcasts to be heard on the internet, and this summer we can always look forward to performances of Wagner operas from Bayreuth, Rossini operas from Pesaro, and many other works that will be performed at the various festivals this summer.
In the meantime -- Enjoy!
