OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO
If you
happen to be particularly fond of the operas of Mozart, the next few days are
bound to please! First off, on Thursday, Radio 3 (RAI) will be broadcasting a
LIVE performance from Palermo of "Idomeneo." Since the Teatro Massimo
in Palermo has been streaming several of their recent opera productions on
YouTube, you might want to look around the YouTube site on Thursday afternoon
just in case a FREE video-stream of this opera performance is available.
Then on
Saturday, the Met's matinee broadcast will be of Mozart's later opera "La
Clemenza di Tito." Appearing in the cast are Matthew Polenzani as Tito and
Joyce Di Donato as Sesto.
There's also
some prime Wagner available as Radio 4 (the Netherlands) will be offering a
delayed broadcast of Thursday's performance of "Tannhauser" -- direct
from Amsterdam.
For opera-lovers
who may be seeking additional opera on Sunday, French Radio will be airing the
April 1, 2019 performance from Paris of what many people consider to be
Jean-Baptiste Lully's greatest work: "Armide" (1686), a subject
which, in later years, became operas by Gluck, Rossini, & Dvorak (among
others).
Enjoy!
DAVE
