The Rabbit of Seville
OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D' AGUANNO
Tomorrow (Thursday) at 7:25 p.m., it's time for "The Magic Flute" (Mozart) in a LIVE performance from the Met. This is yet another of the Met's continuing series of FREE live audio-streams, given usually once a week.
Then on Saturday, you can hear a LIVE performance from Goteborg of Bellini's "Norma." This one comes to us via Swedish Radio.
This weekend, it's actually Sunday (December 3) that has a few more interesting items on internet radio. For one, there's a performance from this past summer's Rossini in Wildbad festival. Specifically, it's Rossini's early (1813) opera "Aureliano in Palmira." The performance is one that took place on July 22, and if you start listening and the overture sounds suspiciously identical to that of "The Barber of Seville", you're on the right station, since Rossini later re-used that music as the overture for his far better-known opera.
There's even more Italian opera on Sunday, and again, it's a relatively early work by a famous Italian composer. Verdi's "Attila" can be heard in a LIVE performance from Paris on French Radio.
And if your musical taste happens to be of a more "modern" character, you can enjoy Berg's "Lulu" as presented on ORF (Austria) in a LIVE performance from Vienna.
Enjoy!
