OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D' AGUANNO
Opera
fans with a particular fondness for the music of Charles Gounod will be able to
enjoy TWO of his most famous operas in the days ahead. The main attraction for
many would probably be the LIVE HD-transmission this Saturday (January 21) of "Romeo
& Juliette" with tenor Vittorio Grigolo and soprano Diana Damrau in
the leading roles. Not only will this opera be shown in select movie theatres,
but an audio broadcast of the performance will be available on several internet
radio stations.
Before
that, Gounod's "Faust" can be heard on Friday in a LIVE broadcast
from Florence. Radio 3 (RAI) has it on their schedule, as well as a Saturday
broadcast of Verdi's "Macbeth" from Palermo.
If
you happen to prefer the music of Mozart, there's a LIVE performance of
"The Abduction from the Seraglio" on Radio 4 (the Netherlands),
direct from Amsterdam.
In
the meantime, you can kick-start your opera weekend by tuning in to the Met's
FREE live audio-stream tomorrow (Thursday) for a performance of Bizet's
ever-popular "Carmen."
Enjoy!
