OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D' AGUANNO
The LIVE
opera coming to us from the Met on Saturday (January 14) will be one of
Puccini's best-loved works: "La Boheme." Several internet radio
stations will be broadcasting the performance.
Another LIVE
opera performance can be heard on Radio 3 (BBC), as "Der
Rosenkavalier" -- a Richard Strauss favorite -- is performed in London's
Royal Opera House. In the cast: mezzo-soprano Alice Coote as Octavian &
soprano Renee Fleming as the Marschallin. Interested listeners who may want to
enjoy this performance, but also want to catch the "Boheme" broadcast
from the Met, can be reminded that opera broadcasts on the BBC can be accessed
for several days after the original airing.
If you
happen to be a Wagner enthusiast, you may want to catch either one of the 2
operas of his that will be on internet radio on Saturday. For example, on Radio
4 (the Netherlands), the December 15, 2016 performance from Amsterdam of
"Parsifal" can be heard.
On the other
hand, Wagner's earlier opera -- "The Flying Dutchman" -- can be found
on the schedule of ORF (Austria), which is broadcasting the November 24, 2016
performance of the work, as heard in Helsinki (the Finnish National Opera). It
should also be noted that a free VIDEO of this production will become available
on the Opera Platform, beginning on January 31.
Puccini's
one-act opera "Il Tabarro" gets paired with Zemlinsky's 1921 opera
"Der Zwerg" ("The Dwarf") (based on a short story by Oscar
Wilde) on Radio 3 (RAI). These two comparatively short works were performed in
Naples on November 18 of last year, and it is this performance which will be
broadcast on Saturday.
Enjoy!
