OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

Last weekend, listeners were given an opportunity to listen to this past summer's performance from London's Royal Opera House of Massenet's "Werther" (with Grigolo & DiDonato). This coming Saturday (October 15), another performance from London comes to us, this time around in the form of one of the greatest Russian operas in the repertory: Mussorgsky's "Boris Godunov." This July 16, 2016 performance features Bryn Terfel in the title role and can be heard on ORF (Austria).

Opera written by Italian composers will probably be of special interest to most listeners this weekend, especially those with a particular fondness for the operas of Gaetano Donizetti. However, not too many of his admirers are very familiar with his 1834 opera "Rosmonda d'Inghilterra" (unless you happen to have the CD recording with Renee Fleming, that is). This opera -- written after "L'Elisir d'Amore" but before "Maria Stuarda" -- can be heard in a LIVE performance from Florence on Radio 3 (RAI).

NPR continues its series of performances from the San Francisco Opera's 2015/2016 season with a broadcast of Verdi's "Don Carlo" as performed by that opera company this past June.

Rossini's "William Tell" -- his last opera and certainly one of his best (and longest!!) -- can be heard on Tuesday (October 18) at 6:25 pm on the Met's FREE live audio-stream.

Enjoy!

DAVE
