OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

From July 18 of this year, it's Offenbach's rarely performed comic opera "Fantasio" in a performance from Montpellier. Listeners may be a bit surprised to hear a bit of music in this opera which Offenbach later incorporated into his more familiar score "Tales of Hoffmann."

Another comic opera -- Donizetti's ever-popular "L'Elisir d'Amore" which seems to be popping up everywhere these days -- comes to us via Klara (Belgium) in a recent performance from Brussels. A free video of the work may soon become available on the opera company's website.

Last week interested listeners were treated to a performance of Richard Strauss's "Der Rosenkavalier" from Amsterdam; this week it's a LIVE performance of this same work, courtesy of the Swedish National Opera (Stockholm).

Verdi enthusiasts can rejoice in the fact that two of his operas can be heard in the days ahead. On Saturday, NPR brings us an October 2014 performance of "Un Ballo in Maschera." Tenor Ramon Vargas stars in this San Francisco Opera performance.

Then, on Tuesday evening (Sept. 29) at 7:25 pm, the Met is offering another FREE live audio-stream, the opera being "Il Trovatore" with soprano Anna Netrebko singing the role of Leonora.

Enjoy!

DAVE
