OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

Among the radio broadcasts scheduled for this coming Saturday (September 12), a LIVE performance from Amsterdam of "Tristan & Isolde" will undoubtedly be of interest to fans of the operas of Richard Wagner. This is a one-time-only concert performance of the work & may be accessed on the internet on Saturday MORNING, this being a matinee performance in the Netherlands.

NPR brings us a September 2014 performance of Bellini's "Norma" with soprano Sondra Radvanovsky singing the title role. This is part of NPR's series of broadcasts from the San Francisco Opera's 2014/2015 season.

A certain number of opera fans may be aware of the fact that Edouard Lalo composed an opera called "Le Roi d'Ys" which gets an occasional airing, usually in either France or Belgium. This time around, however, it's his unfinished opera "La Jacquerie" which is being broadcast on German Radio in a performance from Montpellier which took place this past July 24. (The opera was completed by one Arthur Coquard, based on sketches left behind by Lalo himself.)

If you'd care to begin your opera-listening a little earlier this weekend, you might want to tune in to Radio 3 (RAI) on Friday (September 11) for a rare opportunity to hear "I Was Looking at the Ceiling & Then I Saw the Sky" by John Adams who wrote the score in 1995 shortly after the 1994 Los Angeles earthquake, the effects of which are dealt with in this work. This is a LIVE broadcast from Rome.

Enjoy!

DAVE
