War has broken out between the Babylonians and Israelites. The Israelites have captured Fenena, younger daughter of the Babylonian King, Nabucco. OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

This coming Saturday (May 11), the Met has a blockbuster opera on its broadcast schedule, namely Wagner's "Die Gotterdammerung" which features soprano Deborah Voigt as Brunnhilde and largely the same supporting cast that was seen in last season's HD-transmission of this work.

Another blockbuster -- but of a different type -- would be Verdi's "Don Carlo." Tenor Ramon Vargas sings the title role in a performance from Paris which took place at the end of last month.

Another Verdi work -- his early opera "Nabucco" -- can be heard on ORF (Austria) in the same La Scala performance (February 1, 2013) which was broadcast earlier on at least one other internet radio station.

Swedish Radio this week is featuring a LIVE performance from Goteborg (Sweden) of Rossini's ever-popular comedy "The Barber of Seville."

Opera of the 21st Century also figures on Saturday's schedule, with German radio broadcasting the May 5 performance (from Giessen) of "Kommilitionen" (loosely translated as "Fellow Students"), a 2011 composition by British composer Peter Maxwell Davies.

Tomorrow evening (May 9) at 7:25 p.m. will be your last chance this season to catch a LIVE audio-stream from the Met. It's the same opera & same cast that was heard last Saturday afternoon: Poulenc's "Dialogues of the Carmelites." With a cast headed by Isabel Leonard as Blanche & Patricia Racette as Madame Lidoine, need I say more?

This coming Saturday at 2 p.m., the Bavarian State Opera (Munich) will once again be presenting a FREE live video-stream of a complete opera performance, with English subtitles.

This time around, it's Verdi's "Macbeth" starring baritone Zeljko Lucic (recently seen as Rigoletto in the Met's HD-transmission).

Complete cast and other info listed here:

You'll note that my cousin Emanuele D'Aguanno will be singing the role of Malcolm in Saturday's performance.

Enjoy!

DAVE

P.S. He's not my cousin, as far as I know. Same last name, though !!!
