OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

Opera-goers who have already listened to -- and possibly even watched -- the first 3 installments of Wagner's Ring Cycle, currently being performed at the Met, are doubtlessly looking forward to the matinee this Saturday at 12 noon (Feb. 11) of the final opera in the series: "Die Gotterdammerung" ("Twilight of the Gods"). As she has in two of the previous operas, soprano Deborah Voigt will be singing the role of Brunnhilde, with Jay Hunter Morris as Siegfried once again. You can catch the performance on many internet radio stations, or watch it LIVE at area movie theatres. (See www.metopera.org for more details.)

Another German opera that is performed quite regularly -- "Salome" by Richard Strauss -- can be heard on Klara. Please note: This current production from Brussels will shortly become available for FREE video-streaming in the near future.

ORF will be bringing us the January 12, 2012 performance of Verdi's "Otello" which was seen and heard in Vienna (Vienna State Opera).

Then there's an interesting double-bill scheduled on Swedish radio: Bartok's only opera ("Bluebeard's Castle") shares the bill with Bernstein's 1952 opus "Trouble in Tahiti." The performance on hand originates from Stockholm (2/4/12).

Beforehand, you might want to tune in to the Met's free LIVE audio-stream tomorrow evening (Thursday 2/9) when Verdi's opera "Aida" will be performed. Soprano Violeta Urmana sings the title role, just as she did a couple of seasons back when this opera was shown in local movie theatres.

Enjoy!
