OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D’AGUANNO
This coming Friday happens to be December 7, which (for many opera-lovers) means the opening of the new season at La Scala. This year Verdi's "Attila" will be the opera of choice, and Radio 3 (RAI) will be broadcasting it on internet radio. Bass Ildar Abdrazakov takes on the title role which he has already sung to great acclaim elsewhere. As the La Scala opening night performances are usually televised, interested folks should probably be on the look-out for an upcoming video of this same performance.
There's even more Verdi available to us at the same time as OperaVision brings us the video-stream of the recent production of "Macbeth" as performed in Venice.
Also on Friday, if you happen to be in the mood for some Puccini instead, you can tune in to Latvian Radio for a LIVE performance from Riga of "La Rondine."
More Puccini comes to us on Saturday with the Met's LIVE matinee broadcast of "Il Trittico" which, as many of you know, is comprised of the following 3 operas: "Il Tabarro" - "Suor Angelica" - "Gianni Schicchi." It may interest many listeners to know that Placido Domingo will be heard in the title role of "Gianni Schicchi."
Radio 3 (RAI), beside broadcasting "Attila" on Friday, will bring more Verdi to us on Saturday with a performance from Naples of "Nabucco."
And for those of you with more adventurous operatic tastes, there's the world premiere of Austrian composer Johannes Maria Staud's new opera (his 3rd, actually): "Die Weiden" ("The Meadows"). This one can be heard on ORF (Austria), as it is performed LIVE from the Vienna State Opera.
Enjoy!
DAVE
