OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

Baritone Dimitri Hvorostovsky can be heard in TWO radio broadcasts this coming Saturday (February 13), one of which is the LIVE broadcast from the Met of Verdi's "Il Trovatore" which also happens to feature Met regulars Angela Meade (soprano), Dolora Zajick (mezzo-soprano), & Marcello Giordani (tenor).

In a performance that originally took place just last month at London's Royal Opera House, Hvorostovsky can also be heard in the title role of Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin." This one can be heard on BBC Radio 3, the broadcast being made available all next week as well so that Hvorostovsky fans won't miss this broadcast if they want to opt for the Met broadcast on Saturday.

More Verdi can be heard on Radio 4 (the Netherlands), the opera this week being "Otello." Tenor Jose Cura sings the title role in this performance that took place earlier this month in Barcelona.

Swedish Radio, on the other hand, has a LIVE broadcast from Goteborg of Puccini's "Madame Butterfly." Like the BBC broadcast, this one can be accessed all next week if interested listeners so choose.

There's a really nice "Eugene Onegin" on The Opera Platform, complete with English subtitles.

The performance took place in Berlin on Sunday, January 31.
Tenor Piotr Beczala and mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca are the stars in French Radio's broadcast of Massenet's "Werther." This one took place in Paris on January 26 of this year.

Unfortunately -- for fans of tenor Jonas Kaufmann* -- Met performances of Puccini's "Manon Lescaut" this season will feature tenor Roberto Alagna as a substitute for the ailing Kaufmann. (This would include the upcoming HD-transmission of this opera on March 5). Soprano Kristine Opolais is still in the cast, however, & both she & Alagna can be heard this Friday evening when the Met broadcasts this opera as part of their FREE live audio-stream.

Enjoy!
