OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

This coming Saturday (March 7), most internet radio stations will be broadcasting the LIVE performance from the Met of Bizet's "Carmen" with Elina Garanca reprising the role she performed in the HD-transmission of this opera a few years ago. This time around, her tenor colleague is Jonas Kaufmann. (Please note, however, that Kaufmann had to cancel a performance earlier this week due to illness, so there might be another singer singing the role of Don Jose on Saturday.)

On ORF (Austria), there's a broadcast of Tuesday night's performance at the Vienna State Opera of what can safely be considered Halevy's most popular opera: "La Juive." If you care to spend about $18.00, you might want to watch the LIVE video-stream of this same opera that will become available on the opera company's website.

On the other hand, the Met has two FREE live audio-streams on their schedule over the course of the next few days. First, there's Offenbach's "Tales of Hoffmann" tomorrow evening (Thursday) with tenor Matthew Polenzani in the title role (whereas Vittorio Grigolo sang it in the recent HD-transmission). Then, on Monday (March 9), you can listen to the LIVE performance of Massenet's "Manon" with soprano Diana Damrau and Grigolo himself in the leading roles.

Enjoy!
