As we near the end of the Met's current radio
broadcast season, Verdi's "Un Ballo in Maschera" appears on the
schedule for this coming Saturday afternoon (May 2). Tenor Piotr
Beczala will be featured in this LIVE performance, along with soprano Sondra
Radvanovsky and baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, both of whom appeared in the
HD-transmission of this opera a couple of seasons ago.
From Berlin: a recent performance of "The
Damnation of Faust" by Hector Berlioz, with Joyce Di Donato singing the
role of Marguerite (to be heard on Radio 4 - the Netherlands).
For a LIVE performance of Donizetti's
"Don Pasquale" from the Vienna State Opera, turn to ORF, & you'll
be hearing tenor Juan Diego Florez in the role of Ernesto.
If Mozart's operas are among your favorites,
you actually have two of his masterworks on the schedule this Saturday:
"La Clemenza di Tito" can be heard on French Radio in a performance
that took place in Paris on December 12 of last year.
On the other hand, there's "The Magic
Flute" as performed last month in London's Royal Opera House. This
one comes to us via the Belgian station Klara.
And if you'd like to "kick-start"
your opera-listening this weekend, you may want to check out the Met's FREE
live audio-stream on Fridayevening at 7:25 for the premiere
performance this season of Stravinsky's 1951 opus "The Rake's
Progress."
Enjoy!
