Opera superstar Placido Domingo once again ventures into baritone territory, and his LIVE performance this coming Saturday afternoon (April 4) of the role of Don Carlo in Verdi's "Ernani" can be heard on many internet radio stations, as broadcast from the Met. Also in the cast is soprano Angela Meade who will reprise the role of Elvira, which she sang in the HD-transmission of this opera a few years ago.
More Italian opera can be heard on Saturday with German Radio giving us another chance to listen to the January 31, 2015 broadcast of Giordano's "Andrea Chenier" as performed in London's Royal Opera House. Tenor Jonas Kaufmann sings the title role for the first time in his career, with strong vocal support from soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek as Maddalena.
Mozart's ever-popular "Don Giovanni" once again appears on the opera radio schedule, this time on the Belgian station Klara. This Flemish Opera performance to be broadcast originally took place in Ghent in June 2014.
LIVE from the Vienna State Opera is "Elektra" (by Richard Strauss) to be heard on ORF, with soprano Nina Stemme in the title role.
A bit off the beaten track, Franz Schreker's opera "Die Gezeichneten" ("The Stigmatized") will be broadcast on French Radio. This 1915 opera was performed in Lyons on March 20 of this year, and it is this performance which will be heard on Saturday.
Then on Tuesday (April 7), the Met's free audio-stream will be offering us a LIVE broadcast of Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor" with basically the same cast that performed the work on last Saturday's matinee broadcast.
Enjoy!
