la Boheme
Puccini’s moving story of young love is the most performed opera in Met history—and with good reason. Anita Hartig stars as the frail Mimì in Franco Zeffirelli’s classic production, with Vittorio Grigolo in the role of her passionate lover, Rodolfo.

WITH
DAVE D' AGUANNO
Two Mozart operas appear
on the internet radio schedule this coming weekend. On Swedish Radio, there's a
broadcast of "Idomeneo." The performance at hand is one that took
place last Friday in Drottningholm.
The other opera by
Mozart is actually scheduled to be broadcast on Monday (Sept. 22) on
BBC Radio 3. The opera is "La Finta Giardiniera" ("The Pretend
Garden-Maid"), written when the composer was all of 18 years old. This
charming early work was performed as part of this summer's
Glyndebourne Festival, from which this broadcast stems.
ORF (Austria), on the
other hand, will be broadcasting "The Enchantress" -- one of
Tchaikovsky's lesser-known operas. It's a performance that was performed
yesterday (September 16) in Vienna, & can be heard on Saturday afternoon.
As a side-note: I'd
report on this Saturday's offering from NPR, if only their website
didn't insist on being so mysterious, making it literally impossible to find a
clear-cut run-down of the operas scheduled for the coming weeks! Maybe I'll
have better luck next week.
Enjoy!
DAVE
