OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

Thanks to the Met's willingness to offer FREE live audio-streams of so many of their broadcasts, opera-lovers can kick off their listening experiences tomorrow evening (Thursday) at 7:25 p.m. when "Die Frau ohne Schatten" by Richard Strauss is presented. Then on Monday (November 11), it's Verdi's "Rigoletto" at7:55, with baritone Dimitri Hvorostovsky and tenor Matthew Polenzani in leading roles in that one.

Also on internet radio this coming Monday is an October 2013 performance on BBC Radio 3 of Beethoven's "Fidelio." It comes to us, courtesy of the English National Opera in London.

Mozart enthusiasts can enjoy a special treat on Saturday afternoon when a cast of talented young singers takes on his brilliant comic masterpiece "Cosi fan Tutte" which is being aired on NPR. The performers are from the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, and it's a LIVE performance.

French radio has Bellini on the schedule for Saturday, as they present a performance of his rarely heard "La Straniera" which was given in concert in Marseilles on Halloween.

Then, on Swedish radio, we're given a chance to hear an opera by Dvorak which is NOT "Rusalka." Instead, it's his own version of "Armida" (written shortly after the far more popular "Rusalka"), and the performance being broadcast was originally given in Ostrava on November 8 of last year.

Moving into the 20th century, it's "The Fall of the Anti-Christ" -- Victor Ullmann's 1935 opera, written shortly before his captivity in one of Germany's concentration camps (where he eventually met his death).

Enjoy!
