WITH
DAVE D' AGUANNO
Two of the three operas
that comprise Donizetti's (unofficial) Queens Trilogy can be heard on
upcoming internet radio broadcasts, with ORF (Austria) giving us a
performance from earlier this month of "Anna Bolena" (a Vienna State
Opera production).
The other Donizetti work
-- "Roberto Devereux" -- can be heard on BBC Radio 3 (on Monday,
November 4) in a performance from Welsh National Opera, this one also
having taken place earlier this month.
On the other hand, if
these two tragic operas do not appeal to you, there are a couple of comic
operas (both in Italian) to savor as well. For example, Rossini's
"L'Italiana in Algeri" can be heard on NPR, the first in a series of
broadcasts from Houston Grand Opera's 2012/2013 season (this one from last
October).
Then, on German Radio,
coming from the opera company in Stuttgart is an October 20 performance of
Verdi's "Falstaff."
Enjoy!
DAVE
