THE PEARL FISHERS
For the first time in a century,
the Met stages Bizet's lush, melodic romance. Diana Damrau leads the cast as
Leila, with Matthew Polenzani and Mariusz Kwiecien as the two pearl fishers
whose friendship is tested by their rivalry for her affections.

WITH
DAVE D' AGUANNO
If you should happen to have missed the recent
video of Halevy's "La Juive" (from Munich), you can at least catch
the audio version on BBC Radio 3 this Saturday, and as usual with BBC programs,
the performance should be available for several days afterwards if you feel so
inclined.
A few of the broadcasts scheduled for this
Saturday may actually have been available at an earlier date, but they
certainly are worth re-visiting, one of them being the performance from
Barcelona of Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor" with tenor Juan Diego
Florez as Edgardo. This one originally took place on December 17 of last year.
In a similar vein, there's the September 21,
2015 performance from Geneva of Rossini's "William Tell" on ORF
(Austria). Tenor John Osborn sings the role of Arnold in this one, and he also
just happens to be featured as Leopold in the "La Juive" performance
listed above.
From February 2014: NPR has scheduled a
performance of Dvorak's most popular opera -- "Rusalka" -- as heard
at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Tomorrow (July 7) there should be a LIVE video
performance from Aix-en-Provence of Debussy's "Pelleas &
Melisande" on The Opera Platform. I have provided a link (see below), but
am not sure why there's a message about this one not being available to viewers
in our area. This seems very strange since all prior opera videos on this
website have been available to us. Only time will tell on this one. . .
Enjoy!
DAVE
