OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

This coming Saturday afternoon (December 19), the Met has a LIVE broadcast of Rossini's "La Donna del Lago" with Joyce Di Donato as Elena, Daniela Barcellona as Malcolm, and John Osborn as Rodrigo, all of whom sang these same roles in the HD-transmission from last March. Tenor Lawrence Brownlee, however, is scheduled to take on the role that was previously sung by Juan Diego Florez.

Yet another Rossini opera can be heard this week: Specifically, it's his ever-popular comic opera "The Barber of Seville" which is being offered tonight at 7:25 p.m. as part of the Met's series of FREE live audio-streams that are periodically made available to the opera-listening public.

On Radio 4 (the Netherlands), there's a matinee performance of what many people consider to be Denmark's "national opera" -- Carl Nielsen's "Maskarade" -- as given in a concert performance from Amsterdam. This being a matinee performance from Europe, interested listeners should check out Radio 4's website on Saturday morning, as opposed to the usual afternoon hours for Saturday opera broadcasts.

Aside from the presentations listed above, there isn't much in the way of LIVE performances being offered this Saturday. On the other hand, the opening night performance (12/7/15) from La Scala of Verdi's "Giovanna d'Arco" ("Joan of Arc"), featuring soprano Anna Netrebko, can be heard on German Radio. There's even a video of this performance available on YouTube that is certainly worth checking out.
