OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

This coming Saturday (February 1), the "airwaves" on internet radio are dominated by the LIVE broadcast from the Met of Puccini's "Madame Butterfly." Opera fans who may have attended the HD-transmission last year of "The Trojans" (Berlioz) may be interested in listening to tenor Bryan Hymel's singing of the role of Pinkerton in this Saturday afternoon's broadcast.

With the Met soon to transmit a LIVE performance of Dvorak's "Rusalka" in area movie theatres next month, it's interesting to note that this same opera (but with different singers) will be broadcast on ORF in a performance taped last month from the Vienna State Opera. A LIVE video-stream of this work will also be available for viewing on the internet the day after the Met's HD-transmission -- which must certainly be one for the record-books: 2 videos of "Rusalka" on 2 consecutive days! (Can Dvorak's other operas be far behind?)

Fans of the operas of Richard Strauss, on the other hand, may be pleased to learn that his opera "Arabella" is being broadcast LIVE from Nuremberg on German Radio.

And for those of you who are in need of some delightful opera BEFORE this weekend, the Met is generously providing us with a FREE live audio-stream of tonight's performance of Donizetti's "L'Elisir d'Amore."

Enjoy!
