Several internet radio stations will be broadcasting the
LIVE Met performance this Saturday (January 18) of Tchaikovsky's "Eugene
Onegin" with the same singers (Mariusz Kwiecien and Anna Netrebko) taking
the leading roles, as they did in the HD-transmission which was shown in
several local movie theaters earlier this season.
Other operas that can be heard on internet radio this
Saturday include Verdi's "I Due Foscari" in a LIVE performance from
Vienna. Placido Domingo takes on the role of the elder Foscari (a baritone
role) in this particular broadcast.

Another Italian opera (of slightly earlier vintage) is
Donizetti's "La Favorita" which Swedish Radio has scheduled. The
performance being broadcast actually took place nearly a year ago in Paris
(February 1, 2013) and stars mezzo-soprano Alice Coote in the role of Leonora.

Going back even further in time to the year 1710, there's
Handel's 3-act opera seria "Agrippina" which the Belgian station
Klara is broadcasting, performances of this opera having taken place in
Barcelona this past November.

One more LIVE broadcast (this one from Paris) worth
mentioning comes to us via French Radio, as a relatively rare opportunity
presents itself to hear "Lakme" by Leo Delibes which, as many of you
probably know, features the Bell Song as one of its many highlights.

It's a good thing there's so much good opera on TV while the Arctic Vortex makes going outside an undesirable option...and now for something a bit lighter because, baby, it's cold outside!
