OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE D' AGUANNO
Many opera stations on the internet this Saturday (December
6) will be broadcasting the first of the Met's 2014/2015 broadcast matinees,
this one being Rossini's "Barber of Seville." Those of you who saw
the HD-transmission of this opera last month will be familiar with the
delightful singing of Christopher Maltman (Figaro), Isabel Leonard (Rosina),
& Lawrence Brownlee (Almaviva).
Other than the "Barber of Seville" broadcast from the
Met, RAI has scheduled a noteworthy broadcast of its own. It's another opera by
Rossini, but this is Rossini in a far more serious vein. "William
Tell" is the opera to be heard, as it was performed in Bologna this past October
8.
And if you're interested in hearing an opera by Bizet which is NOT
"Carmen," then you should tune in to French Radio for a performance
of "The Pearl Fishers" which took place on November 22 in Vienna.
Soprano Diana Damrau sings the role of Leila, with whom both the tenor
& the baritone are totally infatuated!
