OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

Lovers of Wagner's operas have reason to rejoice this weekend as THREE of his masterworks can be heard on internet radio this coming Saturday (August 10). For example, if you'd prefer one of his comparatively shorter works, you might want to tune in to any NPR station and give a listen to "The Flying Dutchman" in a performance from Los Angeles Opera (dated some time in March of this year).

On the other hand, if you're up for a huge blockbuster of an opera, there's the epic "Die Gotterdammerung" as performed on July 31 at this summer's Bayreuth Festival. (Rumor has it that this one is best enjoyed without any of the outrageous visuals, so no problems on internet radio.)

Or how about "Die Meistersinger" in a performance from last Friday (August 2) as part of this summer's Salzburg Festival? (Rumor has it that this one is a feast for both eyes and ears!)

If Wagner does not happen to be what you're in the mood for this Saturday, why not let good old Giuseppe Verdi come to the rescue? His relatively early opera "Attila" can be heard on German Radio in a performance from Berlin (June 19 of this year).

Adventurous listeners, however, might want to check out the World Premiere of Swedish composer Marie Samuelsson's opera "Joran Snake Eye" which was heard for the first time on July 29, as part of the Vadstena Festival.

Enjoy!
