OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH
DAVE  D' AGUANNO

Although the LIVE Saturday matinee broadcasts from the Met have ceased for this season, there are still a number of noteworthy opera broadcasts that are well worth one's time. For example, BBC Radio 3 will be broadcasting a recent performance from London's Royal Opera House of Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor." With soprano Diana Damrau singing the title role, I am sure that this one will be of particular interest to Damrau fans and/or Donizetti fans.

If you happen to be in the mood for something a bit off the beaten track, you might want to tune in to German Radio for the April 8th performance from Bonn of what has been described as a "tango opera." It's "Maria de Buenos Aires" -- a 1968 work by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla.

Jumping from 1968 all the way back to 1682, Lully's "Persee" can be heard on French Radio in a performance that took place in Paris on April 6th of this year.

There's also a matinee performance from Amsterdam (i.e. morning here in RI) of Bellini's "La Straniera" (1828). Though not as popular as some of his other works, this relatively early work of Bellini is sure to please admirers of his other operas.

You may also want to consider Friday's broadcast from RAI of Puccini's "La Fanciulla del West" -- direct from La Scala.

Enjoy!

OPERA ON THE INTERNET
WITH

The final LIVE matinee broadcast from the Met for the current season will take place this coming Saturday with a performance of Mozart's "Abduction from the Seraglio" which can be heard on various internet radio stations.

Other LIVE broadcasts include a performance of Debussy's "Pelleas & Melisande" from the Malmo Opera, which can be heard on Swedish Radio and can be accessed for several days after the actual broadcast.

On French Radio, there's a broadcast of the April 1, 2016 performance from Lyons of Halevy's "La Juive."

Radio 4 (the Netherlands) has scheduled Wagner's "Parsifal" as performed in Stockholm this past March.

Those who are interested in getting a head-start on their opera-listening for the weekend can tune in to Radio 3 (RAI) on Friday for a LIVE broadcast from Venice of Donizetti's "La Favorite."

Opera fans who thrive on LIVE opera videos and/or the operas of Puccini will probably want to check out the TWO performances of "Tosca" that are being video-streamed from Genoa this week. The first one takes place today! -- But if this information comes to you too late, the second video-stream is being offered on Saturday, with a difference in casting for the soprano & tenor leads.

Enjoy!
